Elevate Your Anatomy Knowledge

Go beyond surface-level understanding.

Gain a deeper understanding of facial anatomy
Explore the structure and function of the skin, facial muscles, and underlying tissues.

Understand the anatomy and physiology behind neuromodulators
Learn how neuromodulators affect the neuromuscular junction and temporarily reduce muscle movement.

Explore the blood supply of the face
Identify major facial arteries and recognize vascular danger zones relevant to client safety.

Connect anatomy to facial esthetics
Develop anatomical knowledge that can help you better understand the structures and considerations relevant to facial esthetics.

Course Highlights:

Facial Anatomy
  • Skin Deep: Explore the epidermis, dermis, and hypodermis and their roles within the integument.
  • Master the Muscles: Learn the structures, attachments, and actions of the muscles of facial expression.
  • Understand Wrinkles: Explore the anatomical relationship between facial muscle activity, dermal changes, and dynamic and static wrinkles.
  • Neuromuscular Junction: Examine how acetylcholine and SNAP-25 are involved in neuromodulator action.
  • Blood Supply: Explore the major arteries supplying the face and their clinically relevant anatomical relationships.
  • Visual Learning: Learn through detailed visuals, images, and real human cadaver education.
  • NCEA CE Certificate: Receive a certificate documenting your 3.0 NCEA Continuing Education Credits after successfully completing the required course, quizzes, final exam, and evaluation.

What You'll Learn - Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

Describe the structure and primary functions of the three main layers of the integument, the epidermis, dermis, and hypodermis, including their sublayers and key cell types (e.g., keratinocytes and melanocytes) that support the skin’s protective and barrier roles.
Differentiate the muscles of facial expression from other skeletal muscles by their attachments and actions, and how their repeated contraction, together with age-related dermal atrophy, contributes to the formation of dynamic and static wrinkles.
Examine the anatomical and physiological basis of neuromodulator action at the neuromuscular junction, including the roles of acetylcholine and SNAP-25, to explain the physiological reason a neuromodulator temporarily reduces muscle movement.
Locate the major arteries supplying the face, including the facial artery, its branches, and the angular–ophthalmic anastomosis, and recognize the vascular “danger zones” where compromised blood flow presents a client-safety risk.

Course Requirements
